The Climate Action Plan outlined by Government today (Monday 17th June 2019) is based on evidence, science and facts, according to the Irish Offshore Operators Association.

The representative organisation for the offshore oil and gas industry says responding to climate change requires actions which deliver real results by cutting pollution and carbon emissions.

Welcoming the Action Plan, Association Chief Executive, Mandy Johnston, added.

“The Climate Action Plan sets out a blueprint, involving all parts of Irish society including industry to meet the challenge of climate change.

Our members will consider the document. We are keen to continue contributing to the economy while at the same time ensuring that climate goals are met.

The plan is a realistic vision which will see our communities and our economy thrive by having security of power supply which maintains jobs while at the same time cutting carbon emissions.

We need to see actions which will deliver results. In Canada, the Green Party recognises this. It’s policy is that “For as long as we’re using fossil fuels at all, globally, Canadians should be using Canadian sources.”. The same applies here.

Our member companies remain committed to Ireland’s sustainable economic future and to playing their part by working with local communities, environmental agencies as well as policy makers.”
