Irish Gas for a Better Tomorrow

Ireland needs secure, abundant, competitively priced and environmentally friendly supplies of energy.
A reliable source of Irish natural gas could fulfil a large proportion of the country's energy needs, enhance Ireland's energy security and decrease our dependence on foreign supply in the years to come.
A strong Irish offshore industry can also make a significant contribution to the Irish economy. A steady supply of Irish gas will increase competition in the market and protect us from supply disruptions and price spikes. Last but not least, natural gas is more efficient and environmentally friendly than any other fossil fuel and a safe supply of Irish natural gas can help Ireland reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases and fulfil its international obligations under the Kyoto protocol.
The Irish offshore industry is ready to meet this challenge. To do so effectively Ireland needs to maintain a regulatory and fiscal regime that encourages high risk exploration, a stable and predictable onshore gas transportation regime that supports investment in infrastructure, and a clearly defined regulatory and planning process.
